We've run this safari for 2,700+ guests, and here's what you're signing up for: a 6-7 hour evening trip covering red dune bashing, desert camp activities, BBQ dinner, and live shows. We pick you up from your hotel in Dubai, Sharjah, or Ajman in a 4x4 Land Cruiser — no need to arrange anything.
The drive to Lahbab takes about 45 minutes from Dubai. Once we hit the dunes, our drivers spend 25-30 minutes navigating the red sand — it's steep, fast, and yes, people scream. The sand here is red from iron oxide, which also makes the dunes steeper than regular desert. First time? Our complete dune bashing guide walks you through what to expect, how to handle motion, and what makes Lahbab different.
We pause at a high dune around 5-5:30pm (winter) for sunset photos. The light turns the sand orange-gold — it's one of the better photo spots in Dubai. Phone cameras handle it fine.
At the camp, you've got a few hours before dinner:
The buffet runs from around 7:30-9pm with grilled meats, salads, hummus, rice dishes, and bread — both veg and non-veg options. Premium guests get sofa seating in a quieter section with more food choices and no queues. Full menu details in our BBQ dinner guide.
Shows run back-to-back while you eat:
More on what to expect in our live shows guide.
Our full comparison guide breaks it down by seating, dining, and crowd levels. Short version:
Regular: All activities included, standard cushion seating, buffet dinner. Works well for most people.
Premium: Sofa seating in a quieter section, bigger food selection, no waiting in meal queues. Worth it if crowds at dinner aren't your thing — see our Premium Desert Safari package for full inclusions.
If dune bashing alone isn't enough, you can combine the safari with a 30-minute quad bike ride. The Desert Safari + Quad Bike combo covers both in one evening, with the same hotel pickup and BBQ dinner.
October through March is the sweet spot — comfortable temperatures all evening. Summer safaris still work since the desert cools after sunset, but the 3pm pickup hour can be warm. Our month-by-month guide has the details, and if you're booking June-September, read our summer heat tips first.
If evenings don't suit your itinerary, our morning desert safari covers dune bashing, camel rides, and sandboarding in cooler temperatures with an 8am pickup. The morning safari guide compares both formats.

Here's how the evening runs, start to finish:
Morning desert safari timings are different — pickup at 8:00 AM, back by 12:30 PM. No dinner or shows, but you get dune bashing, camel rides, and sandboarding in cooler temperatures.
All our desert safaris run at the Lahbab red dunes (also called Big Red or Al Faya Desert), about 45 minutes from Downtown Dubai (55 km via E44). The sand is red from iron oxide in the soil, and the dunes are steeper than other desert areas around Dubai — that's what makes the bashing here more intense than the yellow-sand alternatives further north.
You don't need to figure out how to get there. Hotel pickup and drop-off is included from all Dubai, Sharjah, and Ajman hotels in a 4x4 Land Cruiser or Nissan Patrol.
We're a direct operator, not a reseller. All our drivers are licensed and trained for desert driving, and vehicles get daily safety checks before each evening run. We've operated this Lahbab route for years, and our safety guide covers exactly who shouldn't do dune bashing (pregnant women, recent surgeries, severe back issues) — be honest with us when you book.
Most guests fall into a few groups:
Short version: comfortable clothes, closed shoes, light jacket for after sunset. Our full packing guide has the details, including the mistakes we see guests make every week (open sandals, white clothes, leaving the jacket in the hotel).
Pricing varies by tier (Regular vs Premium) and group size, with discounts for kids and larger bookings. Live pricing is on the booking widget at the top of this page. For a breakdown of what each tier actually includes — and whether the upgrade is worth it — read our price comparison guide.
Kids under 3 ride free. Free cancellation up to 24 hours before your pickup time. Confirmation arrives within 10 minutes by email and WhatsApp.
This is the evening desert safari Dubai that 2,700+ guests have rated 4.7 out of 5: a 6-7 hour trip starting with a 3:00-3:30 PM hotel pickup, red dune bashing at Lahbab, sunset photo stop, camp activities, and a full BBQ dinner with live shows under the stars. It's the format you've seen on Instagram, and the one most first-time visitors book.
We run this every day of the year, including public holidays and Ramadan (evening timings may shift slightly during Ramadan). We operate our own fleet of Toyota Land Cruisers and Nissan Patrols — no middlemen, no resellers, which is why we can keep prices honest and fix issues quickly when they come up.
We'll pick you up from your hotel in Dubai, Sharjah, or Ajman in a 4x4 Land Cruiser or Nissan Patrol. (Private pickups available for Ajman.)
About 45 minutes from the city we pull into the Lahbab meeting point. There's a small grocery shop and restrooms here.
Two paid add-ons sold separately (not included in the package):
25-30 minutes of 4x4 driving over Lahbab's red dunes. Iron oxide gives the sand its red color and the dunes here are steeper than the desert closer to Dubai.
Your driver picks a steep dune and hands you a board. Strap your feet in and slide — it's that simple.
We park at a high dune around 5–5:30pm in winter (later in summer) for sunset photos. The light turns the sand orange and you can see dunes in every direction.
A short camel ride at the desert camp — around 5 minutes per group. Getting on and off is the interesting part; the walk itself is slow.
The buffet runs from about 7:30–9pm. Grilled meats, salads, hummus, rice, Arabic bread, and desserts — with veg and non-veg options.
Three shows back-to-back while you eat:
We head back to your hotel after the shows wrap up, usually around 9–9:30pm.
