A morning desert safari in Dubai is a 4-hour 4x4 tour that picks up guests from their Dubai, Sharjah or Ajman hotel between 6:00 and 7:00 AM in winter (October–March) or 5:00 and 6:00 AM in summer (April–September), drives 45 minutes to the Lahbab red dunes, and returns by 10:00–11:00 AM. Dubai Desert Tour has operated this route directly since 2018. Each Land Cruiser or Nissan Patrol seats up to 6 guests. New to dune driving? See our dune bashing beginner's guide.
The Dubai Desert Tour morning package includes hotel pickup and drop-off, 25–30 minutes of dune bashing on Lahbab red sand, a sandboarding session with boards and instruction, a short camel ride at the camp, a photo stop on a high dune, and bottled water. BBQ dinner, belly dance, tanoura and fire shows are not included — those run on the evening desert safari and the premium safari only.
Three measurable reasons. First, temperature: from May to September, Lahbab dunes stay under 35°C until about 10 AM, while sunset evening tours can still hit 38–42°C. Second, capacity: the morning camp is quieter — most large groups book evening slots. Third, schedule: a 10:00 AM finish leaves the rest of the day free for the beach, mall or city tours. The trade-off is no BBQ dinner and no live shows. For Bedouin culture context, read our desert safari culture guide.
Bring closed shoes (sand surface temperature rises fast after sunrise), sunglasses, sunscreen and a light jacket in December–February when dawn temperatures drop to about 12°C. In summer, loose long-sleeve cotton works best. Dubai Desert Tour supplies bottled water; bring your own camera. Motion-sickness-prone guests should sit in the front passenger seat and tell the driver before dune bashing starts. Full checklist in our desert safari clothing guide.
Dubai Desert Tour prices the morning safari per vehicle, not per person. One 4x4 seats up to 6 guests, so the cost per head drops as group size grows — typically cheaper for families of 4 or more than per-person operators. Quad bikes and 2-seater or 4-seater dune buggies are available as paid add-ons at the Lahbab meeting point. Live rates appear in the booking widget. For a full options comparison, see the morning desert safari complete guide.
Pickup window: 6:00–7:00 AM in winter (Oct–Mar) and 5:00–6:00 AM in summer (Apr–Sep) from Dubai, Sharjah or Ajman (Ajman is private pickup only). The drive to the Lahbab desert takes about 45 minutes. Vehicle: Land Cruiser or Nissan Patrol, up to 6 people.
Short stop at the meeting point before the dunes. There's a small grocery shop, washrooms, and the staging area where drivers deflate tyres for sand driving. If you booked add-ons (quad bike or dune buggy), this is where you collect them.
Available for extra cost at the meeting point. Quad bike: solo ride on a marked desert track. Dune buggy: 2-seater or 4-seater self-drive in an open dune area. See our dune buggy options if you want to pre-book.
Drivers reduce tyre pressure and head into the red dunes for 25–30 minutes of dune bashing. Tell the driver if you prefer a milder ride — they'll adjust. Sit in the front passenger seat if you're prone to motion sickness. We stop at a viewpoint partway through for photos.
Boards and basic instruction are provided. Beginners usually pick it up in 2–3 tries on shorter slopes. There's no time pressure — go as many runs as you want before we move on.
A few minutes at one of our regular high-dune spots while the morning light is still soft. Bring your phone or camera; we'll take group shots if you ask.
Camel ride at the camp (about 5–10 minutes per turn). Suitable for adults and kids 3+. Handlers walk the camels — you don't steer. Skip it if you'd rather sit out; many guests prefer to photograph from the ground.
Back in the 4x4 for the return drive. Drop-off is at the same hotel as pickup. Total tour duration is around 4 hours from pickup to drop-off. For shared bookings the drop-off can't be changed; private bookings can adjust on request (extra charges may apply).
