Desert Safari Dubai with Dune Buggy: Self-Drive + BBQ Dinner & Shows
About This Experience
Most people booking a Dubai desert safari pick one thing — drive a buggy or ride the safari camp's dune bashing. This combo gives you both in the same evening, and you don't have to pick.
Here's how it runs: pickup is around 3pm from your hotel in a Toyota Land Cruiser (covers Dubai, Sharjah, and Ajman). First stop is the buggy base, where you get a 5-7 minute safety briefing and then 20-30 minutes (or 45-60 minutes on Premium) of self-driving an automatic Polaris RZR. The route is guide-led and graded for beginners, so even if you've never driven off-road, you'll be comfortable within the first few minutes.
After the buggy session, you join the rest of the safari group. We move to the dune bashing area in a Land Cruiser — the driver drops the tyre pressure, picks the line on the red dunes, and you get 45-60 minutes of the rollercoaster ride. Then it's into the desert camp for camel rides, sandboarding, henna painting, BBQ dinner (grilled meats, vegetarian options, live cooking), shisha at the designated corner, and three live shows back-to-back: Tanoura, fire performance, and belly dance. Soft drinks, water, tea, and coffee are unlimited. Hotel drop-off is by 9:30pm in winter, around 10pm in summer.
This combo is for couples who want to share the buggy seat, families who want a 4-seater so everyone rides together, friends who want the active driving part plus the cultural camp evening, and travelers who prefer a steering wheel over the handlebars of a quad bike. If you want each rider on their own machine, see our desert safari + quad bike combo. If you want just the buggy without the camp, check the 2-seater buggy or 4-seater buggy packages. And if you want the safari camp alone, the standard desert safari or premium safari are simpler picks.
Which buggy: 2-seater or 4-seater?
- 2-seater Polaris RZR 570: 1 driver + 1 passenger, side-by-side. Best for couples or solo drivers. Sportier feel, tighter turns. AED 1,000 Standard / AED 1,550 Premium per vehicle.
- 4-seater Polaris RZR: 1 driver + 3 passengers (2 in front row, 2 in back row). Best for families with kids 12+ or groups of 3-4 friends who want to ride together. AED 1,600 Standard / AED 2,500 Premium per vehicle.
One price covers the whole vehicle regardless of how many seats you fill. A solo driver in a 2-seater pays the same as a couple in a 2-seater. A family of 4 in a 4-seater pays one flat AED 1,600 (not AED 400 × 4).
Standard vs Premium combo
- Standard: 20-30 minute buggy session, regular safari camp (shared seating, regular BBQ buffet line).
- Premium: 45-60 minute buggy session, VIP camp area (separate sofa-style seating, faster BBQ service). Same dune bashing experience and same live shows as Standard.

Itinerary
- Hotel Pickup
Our driver picks you up in a Toyota Land Cruiser. Covers Dubai, Sharjah & Ajman hotels. The drive to the desert base takes about 45 minutes from central Dubai.
- Arrival at Desert Base + Safety Briefing
You arrive at the buggy base in the Dubai red dunes. Quick safety briefing (5-7 minutes): how the automatic transmission works, what the marked route looks like, hand signals from the lead vehicle, and what to do if you get stuck (which rarely happens — the route is graded for beginners).
- Self-Drive Dune Buggy Session
20-30 minutes of self-driving the Polaris RZR. You follow an instructor's vehicle on a marked desert route — gentle dunes for the first half, slightly bigger ones in the second half once you've got comfortable with the controls. Two-seater means one driver + one passenger (you can swap halfway).
- Transfer to Safari Camp
After the buggy session, you join the safari group. We move to the dune bashing area in a Land Cruiser — driver inflates tyres down, picks the line, and you get the rollercoaster ride on the red dunes for 45-60 minutes.
- Dune Bashing
45-60 minutes of dune bashing in the Toyota Land Cruiser. Our driver is experienced at reading the dunes and adjusting intensity — let them know if you want a calmer ride or full thrill.
- Sunset Stop
Brief stop at a sunset viewpoint on the dunes. Time for photos (the light here is genuinely good — your phone will do fine, no fancy camera needed).
- Arrive at Desert Camp
Welcome drink on arrival. Activities open: camel riding, sandboarding, henna painting, Arabic costume photos, shisha corner. Move between them at your own pace.
- BBQ Dinner Service
Buffet-style BBQ dinner: grilled meats and seafood, vegetarian options, salads, rice, hummus, baklava for dessert. Soft drinks, water, tea, coffee — unlimited.
- Live Shows
Three live shows back-to-back: Tanoura (spinning skirt dance, 20 min), fire dance (15 min), belly dance (25 min). Watch from your table.
- Drop-Off
We head back to your hotel after the shows. Back at hotel by 9:30 PM in winter, around 10:00 PM in summer (later sunset means later schedule).
Frequently Asked Questions
How long is the desert safari with dune buggy combo?
What's the difference between this combo and the desert safari with quad bike?
Both include the same evening safari camp — dune bashing, BBQ, shows, camel ride. The difference is the active vehicle: this combo gives you a self-drive 2-seater Polaris RZR (steering wheel, sit side-by-side), while the quad bike combo gives you a single-rider ATV (handlebars, like a motorbike).
Pick the buggy if you want to drive together with a friend or partner. Pick the quad bike if you want each person on their own machine.
Do I need a driving license for the dune buggy?
Yes — driver must be 21+ with a valid driving license (any country accepted with English/Arabic translation). The passenger needs no license and can be 12+. Bring your physical or digital license; we check it before the briefing.
Is this combo safe for beginners?
Yes. The buggy is automatic transmission — you only need to know forward, reverse, accelerator, brake. The route is graded for first-time drivers, and an instructor leads the way. About 80% of our buggy customers have never driven a buggy or any off-road vehicle before. The dune bashing portion is a passenger experience — our driver handles everything.
Can kids join this combo?
Kids 12+ can ride as the passenger in the buggy with a licensed adult driver. The full safari side (dune bashing, camp activities, BBQ, shows) works for all ages. Under 12s can come on the safari portion and watch the buggy session from the rest area — let us know during booking so we can plan the seating.
Is hotel pickup included?
Yes — hotel pickup and drop-off are included for Dubai, Sharjah, and Ajman hotels. We send the exact pickup time the day before by WhatsApp. If you're staying outside these areas (Abu Dhabi, Ras Al Khaimah), pickup is available as a paid add-on — message us before booking.
What should I wear for the dune buggy + safari combo?
Closed shoes are mandatory for the buggy (no sandals or flip-flops). Sunglasses help with the dust. Long sleeves or a light long-sleeve shirt protect from sand. For the camp side, anything comfortable works — most people change into sandals at the camp. See our full clothing guide for details.
What happens if it rains?
Rain in Dubai is rare (a few days a year, mostly January-February). If rain affects the safari operation, we reschedule to the next clear evening at no charge or refund in full — your choice. Light overcast doesn't affect anything.
Can I do this as a private experience?
Yes — private group options are available for both the buggy session (private route, private instructor) and the safari camp (private vehicle for pickup + dune bashing). Pricing scales with group size. Message us with your group size for a quote.
How much does the desert safari + dune buggy combo cost?
Pricing depends on the option you pick (Standard or Premium) and the season. Check the live price at the top of this page — prices update with availability and seasonal demand. Book direct here to avoid the 20-30% markup that booking platforms add.
Do you serve alcohol at the camp?
No alcohol is served at our desert camp. Soft drinks, water, tea, coffee, and shisha are unlimited and included. If alcohol is important to you, the camp does not have a license to serve it.
How early should I book?
For the Standard option, 1-2 days in advance is usually fine. For Premium or for groups of 4+, we recommend 3-5 days in advance, especially in peak season (November-February). Same-day bookings are sometimes possible — message us and we'll check availability.
