About This Experience

What is quad biking in Dubai?

Quad biking in Dubai means riding a single-seat ATV (all-terrain vehicle) across open desert sand dunes, steering with handlebars and shifting your weight through the turns. Our sessions run in the Lahbab desert, about 45 minutes from central Dubai. You pick a 30- or 60-minute ride, no driving license is required, and you have to be at least 16 to ride solo. Most people who book have never been on a quad bike before. First time on a quad? Read our beginner's guide to quad biking in Dubai — age limits, rules, and what to wear.

What You'll Actually Do

This isn't a theme park ride on a roped-off track. You're riding a proper quad bike through Dubai's open desert: real dunes, real sand, real terrain. We take small groups (max 8 riders) out with professional instructors who know every dune and valley in the Lahbab area.

You've got two options: a 30-minute session if you're short on time, or the full 60-minute ride if you want to go deeper into the desert. Both start with a safety briefing where our instructors show you the controls, teach you how to handle sand, and make sure you're comfortable before heading out.

Three Tracks for Different Skill Levels

Not everyone wants the same intensity, and we get that. Our instructors set up three different route options:

  • Beginner track - Gentle slopes, wider paths, slower pace. Good if you've never been on a quad bike before or if you're a bit nervous about it.
  • Intermediate track - Steeper dunes, tighter turns, more speed. For riders who've done something similar or who picked it up quickly during the briefing.
  • Advanced track - The proper stuff. Steep climbs, fast descents, challenging terrain. Our instructors will only take you here if they're confident you can handle it.

Morning or Afternoon - Which Is Better?

We run two sessions daily:

  • Morning (7-7:30 AM) - Cooler temperatures, firmer sand. The light is good for photos early on, and you'll be done by late morning so it doesn't eat your whole day. This is the one to pick in summer.
  • Afternoon (3-3:30 PM in winter, 4-4:30 PM in summer) - Warmer, softer sand which some riders prefer. Time it right in winter and you catch the sunset over the dunes. If you can't decide which season to come, our best time to visit Dubai's desert guide breaks it down month by month.

Quad Bike vs Dune Buggy - What's the Difference?

People ask us this constantly. A quad bike (ATV) is a single-rider vehicle where you sit on top and steer with handlebars - it's more like a motorcycle for the desert. A dune buggy is a side-by-side vehicle with a roll cage, steering wheel, and passenger seat.

Quad bikes give you more of a physical, hands-on experience. You're shifting your weight, leaning into turns, feeling every bump. Dune buggies let you drive with a passenger and feel more like a car. If you want to ride alongside someone, look at our 2-seater dune buggy or the 4-seater for families. If you want something that gets your heart rate up on your own, the quad bike's your pick.

What's Included (and What's Not)

Your booking covers the quad bike itself, all safety equipment (helmet, goggles, gloves), your instructor, water and refreshments, insurance, and a support vehicle that follows the group. Hotel pickup is the one thing that isn't included by default - you can either drive yourself to our Lahbab base (free parking, we send the GPS pin after booking) or add a private car transfer when you book. Meals, professional photography, and tips are extra if you want them.

Safety - We Take It Seriously

Every rider gets a full safety briefing before touching a quad bike. Our instructors are licensed and have years of experience in the Dubai desert specifically - they know the terrain, the weather conditions, and how to handle first-time riders who might be nervous.

All safety equipment is provided and mandatory: helmets, goggles, and gloves. We also run a support vehicle with the group at all times, carrying water, first aid supplies, and communication equipment. For more on staying safe during desert activities, check our desert safety guide.

What to Wear and Bring

Closed-toe shoes are a must - sandals and sand don't mix when you're riding at speed. Long pants help keep sand off your legs. Bring sunglasses for before and after the ride, and sunscreen for exposed skin. You will get dusty, so wear clothes you don't mind dirtying. We provide everything else.

If you want a detailed packing list, our desert gear guide covers everything you need for any desert activity, and our what to wear guide has specific clothing recommendations by season.

Who This Is For

You need to be at least 16 to ride solo (under 18s need a parent or guardian present). No experience required - honestly, most of our riders have never been on a quad bike before, and they do fine after the briefing. If you can ride a bicycle, you can ride a quad bike.

This is a dedicated quad biking session, so there's no camel riding, belly dancing, or BBQ dinner attached. Want the full evening with dinner and a show plus a quad ride? Our desert safari + quad bike combo bundles both and includes hotel pickup, and there's a morning desert safari + quad bike option if you'd rather ride early. But if you just want to get on a quad bike and ride, this is the one.

Quad Bike Dubai Price

Quad bike Dubai prices start at AED 200 for a 30-minute session and AED 240 for 60 minutes. The quad bike, safety gear, helmet, goggles, instructor, refreshments, and insurance are all included. Hotel pickup is the only optional extra (private car transfer added at booking). No hidden fees at the location.

ATV Dubai Desert Experience

Our ATVs are 250cc and 450cc machines, the same spec used in professional ATV Dubai desert sessions. First-timers usually go on the 250cc, which has enough power for the dunes without being intimidating. If you've ridden before, the 450cc gives you more speed on the flats between dune ridges. No driving license is required for either - you just need to be 16 or older.

Prices change with season and group size — see today's live desert safari prices for every package on one page.

Itinerary

  1. Arrive at Lahbab Desert Base

Head to our quad bike base in the Lahbab desert — about 45 minutes from central Dubai (Marina, JBR, Downtown). Free parking at the base. If you added a private car transfer, your driver picks you up from your hotel. We send you the GPS pin and Google Maps link after booking.

  2. Safety Briefing & Gear Up

At the base, your instructor runs through throttle control, braking, sand turning, and hand signals. You get fitted with a helmet, goggles, and gloves. Most first-timers have questions — the instructors deal with beginners daily, so nothing you ask will be new to them.

  3. Open Desert Quad Biking

Out into the open desert on your quad bike (ATV). The instructor picks the route based on your group — beginners get flatter terrain with gradual slopes, advanced riders hit the steeper dunes. You'll stop 2-3 times at scenic viewpoints for photos. The bikes handle well in sand once you get the hang of the throttle.

  4. Cool Down & Photos

Back at the base, grab water and soft drinks. Restrooms are available. Good time to check your photos and compare notes with your group.

  5. Head Home

You're free to leave at your own pace. If you drove, the drive back to Dubai takes about 45 minutes. If you added a private car transfer, your driver will be waiting. Some riders stop at Last Exit Al Khawaneej food truck park on the way back — it's on the route.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the minimum age for quad biking in Dubai?
You need to be at least 16 years old to ride a quad bike in Dubai. This is a legal requirement, not just our policy. Riders under 18 need a parent or guardian present. We check IDs at the site, so bring yours. We don't have smaller ATVs for younger kids — if you're traveling with children, our desert safari packages have activities for all ages.
Do I need experience to ride a quad bike?
No experience needed — about 80% of our riders have never been on a quad bike before. The 15-minute safety briefing covers throttle, braking, and turning in sand. Everyone starts on the beginner track, and your instructor moves you to harder routes if you're handling it well. If you're nervous after the briefing, no pressure to go further than you're comfortable with.
What should I wear for quad biking in Dubai?
Closed shoes are mandatory — trainers or boots, not sandals. Wear clothes you're okay getting dusty, because you will. We provide helmet, goggles, and gloves. Bring sunscreen for before and after the ride, and sunglasses. Long sleeves help with sun and sand but aren't required. For a full packing checklist, see our what to wear guide.
Is quad biking in Dubai safe?
Yes — we've run quad bike tours for over 8 years with no serious incidents. Every bike gets inspected daily. Speeds are capped for beginners, and an instructor rides alongside you the entire time. A support vehicle follows with first aid, water, and comms equipment. All riders get insurance coverage included. It's off-road riding on sand dunes, so listen to your instructor and follow the briefing.
What's the difference between the 30-minute and 60-minute ride?
The 30-minute ride covers the main dune area — about 8-10km of terrain. It's a solid session, especially for first-timers. The 60-minute ride goes deeper into the desert, covers more varied terrain, and gives you time to build confidence and try different tracks. First-timers usually find 30 minutes enough. Repeat visitors or adrenaline seekers usually pick 60.
Can I cancel or reschedule my quad bike booking?
Free cancellation up to 24 hours before your time slot. Rescheduling is also free — do it through our website or WhatsApp. Same-day cancellations aren't refundable, but we can usually shift you to another day if you let us know early. Weather cancellations (sandstorms, rain) get a full reschedule at no cost.
Is there a weight limit for quad bikes?
Yes, 120kg per rider. That's the manufacturer limit for the quad bikes we use (Yamaha Grizzly 350). We don't weigh anyone at the site, but it's important for your safety and handling on the dunes.
Morning or afternoon quad biking — which is better?
In summer (May to September), go morning. Afternoon temperatures can exceed 45°C and it's genuinely unpleasant. In winter (November to March), both work — but afternoon rides around 4-5 PM catch the sunset, which makes for better photos. Morning sessions are always quieter with fewer groups on the dunes.
Can I bring my phone or camera on the quad bike?
Yes, but keep it zipped in a pocket while riding. Holding a phone while driving a quad bike over sand dunes is a bad idea and your instructor will tell you to put it away. We schedule 2-3 photo stops at scenic viewpoints where you can safely take pictures. GoPro mounts work well on the handlebars if you have one.
Is hotel pickup included with the quad bike tour?
No, hotel pickup isn't included in the base price — it's an optional add-on. You can add a private car transfer when you book (covers pickup and drop-off from any Dubai hotel or apartment). Most riders drive themselves to our Lahbab desert base, about 45 minutes from central Dubai with free parking; we send you the GPS pin after booking. If you'd rather have pickup built in, our desert safari + quad bike combo includes it.
What's the difference between a quad bike and a dune buggy?
A quad bike (ATV) is a single-rider vehicle — you sit on top, steer with handlebars, and shift your weight through turns. It's a more physical, hands-on ride. A dune buggy is a side-by-side vehicle with a roll cage, steering wheel, and passenger seat — more like driving a car through the desert. If you want something intense and physical, go quad bike. If you want to ride with a passenger, check our dune buggy vs ATV comparison.
How long does the whole quad bike experience take?
Plan for about 3 hours door to door for the 30-minute ride, or 3.5 hours for the 60-minute option. At the desert base itself you spend around 1.5-2 hours: 15 minutes on the safety briefing, your 30 or 60 minutes riding, then 15 minutes for water and photos. The rest is the drive — roughly 45 minutes each way from central Dubai to our Lahbab base. The actual riding time is exactly what you book; we don't cut it short.
Do you need a license for quad biking in Dubai?
No — our quad bikes don't require a driving license. You need to be 16+ to ride solo. Children under 16 can ride as passengers with an adult driver. We do a full safety briefing before every session, and a guide vehicle leads the route.
Can kids do quad biking in Dubai?
Not as solo drivers — you must be 16 or older to drive a quad bike yourself. Children aged 6-15 can ride as passengers behind an adult driver on our morning family sessions, and under-6s aren't allowed on quad bikes for safety. For younger families, the 4-seater dune buggy is a better fit (kids 4+ can ride as passengers): see our 4-seater dune buggy.
How much does quad biking in Dubai cost?
Quad bike Dubai prices start at AED 200 for a 30-minute session and AED 240 for 60 minutes. That covers the quad bike, safety gear, instructor, water, and insurance. Hotel pickup is a separate optional add-on. Group discounts apply for 4+ riders. If you want quad biking plus a full desert safari with dinner and pickup included, our combo package bundles both.
