Here's exactly how a typical evening desert safari unfolds:
Driver collects you from your hotel lobby in a Toyota Land Cruiser. Shared safaris may have 2-3 pickup stops; private safaris go directly.
Brief stop to deflate tires (better sand grip). Use the restroom here – no facilities during dune bashing.
The main event. 30-45 minutes of 4x4 driving over sand dunes. Intensity varies by operator – ask for "gentle" if you're nervous or prone to motion sickness.
Stop at a scenic dune for sunset photos. Sandboarding available (boards provided). Optional – not everyone does it.
Welcome with Arabic coffee and dates. Time to explore the camp, try henna painting, or dress in traditional clothing for photos.
Short ride around the camp area (15-20 minutes). Included in all packages. For details on what to expect, see our camel riding guide for beginners.
BBQ buffet opens. Grilled meats, rice, salads, hummus, desserts. Vegetarian options available – inform your driver at pickup. For menu details, see our guide to desert safari food.
Shows run during/after dinner:
For entertainment details, see our guide to desert safari shows.
Drive back to Dubai. Expect 45-60 minutes depending on traffic and hotel location.
| Package Type | Price Range | Key Differences |
|---|---|---|
| Budget | AED 50-99 | Large groups, basic camp, rushed schedule |
| Standard | AED 100-180 | Good balance, 6 per vehicle, all activities |
| Premium | AED 200-350 | Smaller groups, better food, VIP seating |
| VIP/Private | AED 400-800 | Private vehicle, customized timing |
Our recommendation: Skip budget options under AED 100 – the experience suffers. Standard (AED 100-180) is fine for most visitors. Premium is worth it for special occasions.

Yes, all camps offer vegetarian options. Inform your driver at pickup so they can notify the camp.
