To book a desert safari in Dubai without overpaying, check seven things before you pay: pickup, dune bashing time, which desert, dinner, shows, what's charged at the camp, and the payment and cancellation terms. A ticket price doesn't tell you much until you know what it leaves out.
For reference, our evening desert safari is AED 120 per person, with hotel pickup, 25–30 minutes of dune bashing, a BBQ dinner and three live shows. The Premium desert safari is AED 240 per person. If you haven't picked a tour type yet (morning or evening, shared or private), start with how to choose a desert safari. This post is for checking a specific offer before you pay. Our own answer sits under each question so you can compare like with like.
What's a fair price for a shared evening desert safari?
Shared evening safaris in Dubai usually sell for somewhere between about AED 80 and AED 400 per person. Two tours with the same name can sit at opposite ends of that range, so the name alone won't help you compare. Our live prices for every tour are on the desert safari price page.
The questions below cover what moves the price: how you get to the desert, how long you're on the dunes, what dinner is, and what gets sold to you once you arrive. A low headline price isn't proof of anything by itself. Ask what it leaves out, and get the answer before you're standing in the desert.

Is hotel pickup included, and is it a 4x4?
Ask two things. Is pickup included from your area? And does the same 4x4 that collects you also do the dune drive, or do you change vehicles on the way? If there's a change, ask how long you wait for it.
Our answer: pickup and drop-off are included from Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman, in a 4x4 Land Cruiser or Nissan Patrol. Winter pickup (October to March) is between 2:30 and 3:30 PM. Summer pickup (April to September) is 3:00 to 4:00 PM. You leave the camp around 9:00–9:30 PM and you're back at your hotel around 10:00–10:30 PM, so the whole trip takes about 7 hours. We message you on WhatsApp the evening before, or early on the morning of your tour, with the exact pickup time. On both Regular and Premium you share the 4x4 with other guests. If you want a vehicle to yourselves, you'll need a private tour, and our private vs shared comparison explains when that's worth it.
How long is the dune bashing, really?
Dune bashing is what most guests remember, and "dune bashing included" doesn't say how long it lasts. Ask for the number of minutes.
Our answer: 25–30 minutes on the Regular evening safari and 30–45 minutes on Premium. After that we stop on a high dune about 20 minutes before sunset so you can take your own photos. You'll get dusty. That's normal.
Which desert do they actually go to?
Ask for the name of the area. "The desert" on its own doesn't tell you the drive time or what the dunes will be like.
We go to the Lahbab red dunes, about 45 minutes from Downtown Dubai. The first stop is the Lahbab meeting point, which has a small shop and toilets. There are no toilets out on the dunes, but the camp has clean ones.
What exactly is dinner, and are drinks included?
Ask whether dinner is a buffet you can go back to, and which drinks are free. Water and soft drinks are worth asking about by name.
Our answer: the BBQ buffet opens around 7:00–7:30 PM, with veg and non-veg options. Soft drinks, water, tea and coffee are unlimited, and you get Arabic coffee and dates when you arrive. The camp doesn't serve alcohol. Jain food is available on request for Premium bookings only, so ask when you book. Our drivers and camp staff usually speak Hindi and Urdu, which helps if you'd rather explain dietary needs in either language.
Which shows and camp activities are in the price?
Get the list in writing. Ask whether the camel ride, henna and shisha are in the ticket or paid at the camp, and how long the camel ride lasts.
Our answer: everyone gets three shows during dinner: tanoura, a fire show and belly dance. A short camel ride of about 5 minutes is included, with a handler walking alongside. Sandboarding, henna and shisha are included too. So is the costume photo corner, where you can dress up in traditional clothes for photos. None of our safaris include a professional photo or video session, so you take your own pictures.
What will they charge you for at the camp?
Ask the company to list everything that costs extra on the night, with a price for each. If they can't or won't, treat the headline price as the start of the bill.
Our answer: quad bikes and dune buggies are paid add-ons at the Lahbab meeting point, and they run before the dune bashing. If you already know you want one, it's easier to book it together with the safari so you see the price before you pay. The desert safari with quad bike (30 minutes of quad biking on the standard option) is AED 380 per person. The desert safari with dune buggy is AED 400 per buggy. The camp also offers horse riding and falcon photos for a separate charge. The camp sets those prices, so ask the staff before you say yes. Tips for the driver and camp staff are optional. Everything else listed above is already in the ticket.
A simple way to compare two offers
Put both quotes side by side and fill in the gaps for the other offer. Here's the grid we'd use:
| Line | Other offer | Our Regular evening safari |
|---|---|---|
| Ticket per person | Their price | AED 120 |
| Hotel pickup | Included? Same 4x4 for the dunes? Any surcharge? | Included (Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman), 4x4 |
| Dune bashing | How many minutes? | 25–30 min |
| Camel ride, henna, shisha | Included or paid at camp? | Included |
| Soft drinks and water | Included or paid at camp? | Unlimited, included |
| Dinner | Buffet or one plate? | BBQ buffet, veg and non-veg |
| Shows | Which ones? | Tanoura, fire show, belly dance |
| Back at hotel | What time? | Around 10:00–10:30 PM |
| Real total | Ticket plus anything above that isn't included | Ticket, plus any paid extra you choose (quad, buggy, horse, falcon photo) and optional tips |
If the other offer still costs less after that and you're happy with what it includes, it may well be the right tour for you.
Is it per person or per car?
Ask which one the price is. A per-vehicle price can look high next to a per-person one until you divide it by the number of people in your group, so do that sum before you compare.
Our answer: the evening Regular and Premium safaris are priced per person. Infants aged 0–3 go free on both, with a limit of one infant per booking. Children aged 4–12 are counted as children when you book, and you'll see the full total before you pay. Dune bashing has no minimum age, and infants ride on a parent's lap. We don't recommend it for pregnant guests or anyone with back or heart problems.
How do you pay, and what if you need to cancel?
Ask how you can pay. A card payment leaves a record you can take to your bank if something goes wrong. A bank transfer to a personal account after a chat on social media leaves you very little to fall back on. Either way, get a written booking confirmation that lists what's included, and read the refund terms themselves, because the word "cancellation" alone doesn't tell you how much comes back.
Our answer: it's your choice. You can pay online by card when you book or pay in cash on the tour day, and we don't take deposits. You can cancel or reschedule up to 24 hours before. Our terms page sets out how much you get back if you cancel, so read it before you book. If you have less than 24 hours to go, message us on WhatsApp and we'll do what we can, though late-change terms apply. If the weather stops the tour, you get a new date or a full refund.
Who do you call on the night if something goes wrong?
Whether you book with a tour company, a booking site or your hotel desk, ask one question before you pay: if the pickup is late on the night, who do I call? Get a WhatsApp number, not just an email address.
Our answer: we've been running since 2018. The WhatsApp chat where we send your pickup time is the one to use if anything changes on the day.
Is Premium worth it, or just a different seat?
Premium still uses a shared 4x4 and the same camp. The two main reasons to pay more are the longer dune drive (30–45 minutes) and a quieter seating area when the shared camp gets busy around 7 PM. Our standard vs premium comparison goes through the rest line by line.
How far ahead should you book?
You can book the evening safari for the same day up to 12:00 noon Dubai time. In busy months and at weekends, booking a few days ahead gives you more choice. Overnight safaris need at least one day's notice.
Which tour should you pick?
If you want the full evening (dunes, sunset, camel ride, dinner and three shows) at a fair shared price, book the evening desert safari. If the busy camp at 7 PM puts you off, or you want the longer dune drive, choose Premium. Whichever company you book with, send them the questions above before you pay.
Frequently asked questions
What should I ask a desert safari company before I book?
Ask seven things: is pickup included and does the same 4x4 do the dune drive, how many minutes of dune bashing you get, which desert they go to, what dinner is and which drinks are free, which shows and activities are included, what's charged extra at the camp, and what the payment and cancellation terms are. Get the answers in writing before you pay.
Is a cheap desert safari in Dubai a scam?
A low price on its own doesn't tell you either way. Ask how many minutes of dune bashing you get, whether the same 4x4 picks you up and drives the dunes, and which activities and drinks are paid at the camp. Get that list in writing, then compare the real totals.
Is the desert safari priced per person or per car?
Ask before you compare, because a per-vehicle price looks higher until you divide it by your group size. Our evening Regular and Premium safaris are per person. Infants aged 0–3 are free, with a limit of one per booking.
What isn't included in a Dubai desert safari ticket?
On our evening safari, quad bikes and dune buggies are paid add-ons at the Lahbab meeting point. The camp also offers horse riding and falcon photos for a separate charge, and tips are optional. There's no alcohol and no professional photo session. The camel ride, sandboarding, henna, shisha, soft drinks, BBQ buffet and three shows are all included.
Can I pay for the desert safari on the day?
Yes. You can pay online by card when you book or pay in cash on the tour day, and we don't take deposits. You can cancel or reschedule up to 24 hours before, and our terms page shows how much is refunded. If the weather stops the tour, you get a new date or a full refund.
